Frequently Asked Questions
Using the tool
What is Get Image Info? Get Image Info is a free suite of three online tools: (1) Image Analyzer - analyzes and displays image metadata and file properties (EXIF, XMP, IPTC, ICC, dimensions, etc.). Files are uploaded to our server and immediately deleted after analysis. (2) Image Compressor - reduces file sizes while maintaining quality. Runs entirely in your browser - files are never uploaded. (3) Image Resizer - changes image dimensions. Runs entirely in your browser - files are never uploaded.
How do I use the analyzer? Open the analyzer page, and either drag and drop an image onto the drop zone or click the drop zone to choose a file from your device. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP, SVG, and others. Results appear below with file info and metadata grouped by type.
How do I use the compressor? Open the compressor page, drag and drop or select an image (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF). Adjust the quality slider, then click "Compress Image". The compression happens in your browser - your file is never uploaded. Download the compressed image when done.
How do I use the resizer? Open the resizer page, drag and drop or select an image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP). Enter your desired width and height. You can lock the aspect ratio to maintain proportions. Click "Resize Image" - resizing happens in your browser - your file is never uploaded. Download the resized image when done.
Does it work on mobile? Yes. You can use the tool on phones and tablets. Use “click to browse” to pick a file from your device. Support depends on your browser and operating system; most modern mobile browsers allow file selection for images.
What browsers are supported? The tool works in modern browsers that support the File API and the libraries we use to read metadata. We recommend the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. If file selection or drag-and-drop works in your browser, the analyzer should work.
Privacy and security
Are my images uploaded? Yes, files are uploaded to our server for processing. However, your image file is immediately deleted after analysis is complete. We do not store, save, or retain your images.
Do you store my images? No. We do not store, save, or retain your images. Files are uploaded to our server for processing (analysis, compression, or resizing) but are immediately deleted after processing completes. We have no database of uploaded photos.
Is my data private? Yes. While files are uploaded for processing, they are immediately deleted after analysis. We do not collect or log image content. You can read our Privacy Policy for full details.
What does “runs in your browser” mean? When you upload an image, it is sent to our server where it is analyzed using server-side tools. The metadata is extracted and sent back to your browser for display. The original file is then immediately deleted from our server.
Formats and metadata
Which image formats are supported? We support common image formats including JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC (and HEIF), AVIF, BMP, TIFF, and SVG. The exact metadata available depends on the format and how the file was created or edited.
Why don’t I see any EXIF data? EXIF may be missing if the image was saved in a format that doesn’t support it (e.g. some PNG or GIF exports), if it was stripped by an app or website (e.g. social media, messaging), or if the file was created by software that doesn’t write EXIF. Screenshots and many graphics also have no camera EXIF.
Why do some images have no metadata? Metadata can be removed for privacy (e.g. GPS), to reduce file size, or by platforms that strip it on upload. Some formats or creation methods don’t include metadata at all. Our tool shows whatever is present in the file.
Can I remove metadata from images with this tool? No. Get Image Info only reads and displays metadata. It does not edit or remove data from files. To strip metadata you would need image editing software or a dedicated metadata-removal tool.
What you can see
What is EXIF? EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata written by cameras and phones. It usually includes device make and model, date and time, exposure settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO), focal length, and sometimes GPS location. Our tool lists all EXIF and TIFF tags found in the image.
What is XMP? XMP is an Adobe-based standard for metadata. Software like Photoshop and Lightroom often store keywords, ratings, and edit information in XMP. When embedded in the image, we display it in the XMP section.
What is IPTC? IPTC is commonly used for copyright, keywords, captions, and creator information, especially in press and stock photography. If your image contains IPTC data, we show it in the IPTC section.
Can you see GPS location in my photos? If the image contains GPS coordinates in its EXIF or other metadata, our tool will display them. Many phones and cameras embed location when it is enabled. If you don’t see GPS, it was either never recorded or was removed by an app or website.
What are dimensions and aspect ratio? Dimensions are the width and height of the image in pixels. Aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height (e.g. 16:9 or 4:3). We show both in the File & image section so you can verify size and proportions.
Other
Is this free? Yes. Get Image Info is free to use. We may show ads to support the service.
Why would I need to check image metadata? People check metadata to verify dimensions and format before uploading, to see what camera or exposure data is embedded, to confirm copyright or contact info is present, to check if GPS or other sensitive data is included before sharing, and to debug missing EXIF after editing or uploading.
